Safe Space Day Camp.

TransHope first launched an event for queer parents in celebrating hardwork and having to raise their kids under judgemental society. This event took place on December 18th 2023 with a goal to show appreciation for the parent's strong dedication towards raising their kids well and most importantly providing children with a fun day camp experience filled with joy and love.

Therefore, this day marked a strong symbol of support and promoting a united community to Queer whom are identified as part of the LGBTQIA community.  We made partnership on this day with 'The Other Foundation' an organisation that is an African Trust that also advances the LGBTQIA community with human rights.  However, we as the TransHope organisation we appreciate working together with The Other Foundation as they were the funding organisation who made this day possible. We hope that there will be more successful events for our kids as this.

With excitement to announce our new Miss Trans KZN 2024, this prestigious event celebrates not only beauty but also courage diversity, and the empowerment of the transgender community in KwaZulu-Natal. Miss Trans pageant showcases remarkable individuals who have made significant contributions to society and who serve as inspiring role models for others. They should also be great leaders with a democratic personality that embraces transgender qualities .  As a transgender diverse organisation, we plan this event with an aim to educate our communities about the transgender life and letting it be known that 'LGBTQ+ Lives Matter'.

In preparing for this entertainment event, we make it an importance that we instill positiveness to the trans youth and allowing the participants to value each other's characteristics. The rehearsals were the significant dedication from the participants to acknowledge the responsibilities of being Miss Trans KZN. They have put hardwork in training and perfecting themselves for the 17th of February. TransHope is proud of this year's finalist, they have proven themselves to be magnificent leaders and shown independency.

All though the judges we impressed to a point that it became a challenging decision-making in terms of finalizing the pageant, but everyone knows that all good things come to an end eventually. Therefore, our Miss Personality 2024 is Mellisa Mbambo; 1st Princess 2024 is Ayanda; 2nd Princess 2024 is Lelencia Meyiwa; and lastly our Miss Trans KZN is Amahle Made.

IDAHOBIT stands for International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia. It is a day dedicated to raise awareness about the harmful attitudes and practices that occur towards the LGBTQIA+ individuals worldwide.

The TransHope organisation hosted an awareness campaign day honoring and celebrating IDAHOBIT on the 17th of May 2024 at Umlazi Q Section Community Hall. The campaign impacted on the history of this day as it was first celebrated in 1990, to remove homosexuality from the list of mental disorders classified by the World Health Organisation.

Our campaign theme is 'Right to Identity' basically we made a partnership with KwaZulu-Natal Legislature in hosting this day as we created awareness to the public on secondary victimization of Trans and Gender diverse individuals within the government institutions.  Also, by providing a lived experiences and impact on Trans bodies after being faced with discrimination. These awareness discussions were to implement resolutions on 'How to ensure government staff are trained on Sexual Orientation Gender Identity Expression and Sexual Characteristics' (SOGIESC).

TransHope stands to dismiss the stereotypes and offensive claims towards the LBTQIA women.

Ensuring support and awareness to those affected and remembering those who we have lost due to overdose was the main and yet achieved goal for this day.

The ilga 2024 World Conference

POSTED BY LERATO SHUSHA

The ilga 2024 world conference took place in South Africa, Cape Town, hosted by Iranti and Gender DynamiX under the theme Kwa umoja we rise! Invited by Ilga, decriminalisation advocated, diversity gender advocates, intersex and trade union movements leaders spoke on this conference and as Transhope we were invited to be a part of that wonderful week. Represented by Sazi Jali, Nobuhle Ndlela and Thabiso Marillier,  It was such an eventful week being in the presence of so many other hardworking organisations under the LGBTQI sector.

During the conference there were many different programs set for the same time slot. Individuals and organizations where obligated to attend any program that suited their working space or their interest because the way the time slots were set, one could not attend programs all at once. However, during the week some attendance felt that the Ilga programs were set only to be presented or demonstrated by white people only whilst they should allow people of color or Africans to speak for themselves on who they are and how they live their lives. Not hearing from a white person's perspective.

Later, people generated a plan stating that the next day they will not enter the doors of the conference venue, but they will do a peaceful protest demanding change to how the conference is presented. It ended in chaos as the protest did not go as planned, instead of protesting beside the road they actually entered the grounds of the conference making noise. With that, the issue was resolved and the week proceeded well till the last day.

On Saturday the 12th of October 2024 at Umlazi U Section Sports Ground, we hosted a Pink Games Day celebrating the International Day of Coming Out through sports and ensuring that queer people can express themselves in sports. It became a splendid day thanks to our stakeholders Caprisa; SiSonke; PopIn for being a special part of the day and to our Miss Trans KZN 2024 for being part of this day. Black Hlase demonstrated the aerobics movements for all to warm up our bodies before the games started. However, in first rounds, the Yellow team lead the scores on the score board but, fortunately the White team found a way to redeem themselves and won most of the games. It became an eventful and fun sunny day as the community children joined in the fun and made the day more spectacular and joyful to all.
